Officer Zartner is the School Resource Officer (SRO) at Brookfield East High School. Through her work, she provides BEHS with an extra sense of security throughout the school day and builds positive relationships between students and law enforcement. Stephanie loves the positive, energetic and passionate connections that she witnesses between staff and students. She began as East’s SRO in January 2020, and the program has been so successful it’s since expanded to include both Elmbrook middle schools as well.
“I love watching students and police officers positively interact, learn to understand, trust and respect each other,” Zartner reflected. “It’s important to me that every day I have an opportunity to help students grow, mature and make choices that lead to happier, healthier lives and a safer community.”
Stephanie is inspired by her good friend and mentor, Kelly DeJonge, who currently works as a National Instructor for the National Association of School Resource Officers and the i love you guys Foundation, and formerly served as an SRO. “Being able to achieve feelings of contentedness, gratitude and curiosity is what success means to me,” she stated. “It means feeling like you are in love with life and knowing you are making positive contributions to people and environment that surround you.” Zartner is most proud of her resiliency and how she’s been able to pass those traits on to her own children, and would love to someday meet inspirational author Brené Brown.
