Elmbrook hosted author Lisa Yee and author/illustrator Dan Santat at Brookfield Elementary on Wednesday, January 10 as they presented to a full library. They visited in promotion of their new book The Misfits which was just released on January 2. Yee is a Newbery Honor Winner and Santat is a 2023 National Book Award Winner for Young People’s Literature and 2015 Caldecott Medal Winner! Their engaging and hilarious presentation centered around how they started in their professions, how to draw and write creatively, and their long-time collaboration efforts.

“We were thrilled to have hosted Lisa and Dan,” reflected Library Lead Sara Field. “Their presentation inspired our students to write, draw, and read! Their latest book flew off the shelves, which is a testament to how these visits actively promote student literacy.”

Following their presentation, they answered students’ questions and signed copies of their books. This event was sponsored by Elmbrook's community partner, Boswell Books. This school year, numerous award-winning authors are scheduled to visit the district as a continuation of our joint initiative to engage students in reading and writing.
