Pilgrim Park student Charlie Plach was selected as one of the winners of the Discovery Crew contest hosted by AAA and AMA Waterways! Charlie’s essay entry was selected as one of 60 8th grade student winners out of the total 800 submissions from across the United States. As his prize, Plach and his family will get to take an eight-day educational river cruise from Amsterdam to Belgium with ports-of-call in places of interest such as the Netherlands.

Charlie’s winning essay responded to three prompts and focused on his passion for learning through travel. During the hands-on learning experience, students follow a custom-designed itinerary with shore excursions and ports of call focused on learning about local history, nature, science, art, and food. Additionally, travelers will have the opportunity to visit historic landmarks like the Anne Frank House and the Holland windmills.
