This month a total of 650 purses, bags and backpacks were delivered to the Milwaukee Rescue Mission’s Joy House for the annual Purse Project drive on behalf of those in need in the Milwaukee area this winter. Of the 650, 549 of the bags were stuffed with blankets, books, warm clothing, health and beauty essentials and other valuable items by the high school Key Clubs to give to individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Milwaukee. The bags and supplies were generously donated by Elmbrook students, staff and community members at all schools throughout the last few months.
The project was led and organized by District Office’s Jean Loepfe and the Mission will display the bags and purses on shelves for guests to pick up for the holiday as needed. Any remaining purses and supplies will continue to be distributed through the cold winter months.
“Each year I am continuously blown away by the generosity of our community,” reflected Loepfe. “It’s inspiring to see the support from all members of the Elmbrook community throughout the year and especially during the holiday season.”
This is Elmbrook’s seventh year of contributing to this cause and one of the largest donations to date! Thank you to all who participated.
