Maija took CAPP courses in literature, math, and Spanish, earning credits through UW Oshkosh that seamlessly transferred to her university. She also completed AP Macroeconomics, AP Microeconomics, AP Physics, AP Literature, and AP Language Arts, helping her develop critical thinking skills and prepare for the rigor of college coursework.
“I think what was most valuable to me was the transferability of the credits to so many universities,” Maija shared. “It allowed me to go wherever I wanted and still use those credits. But also, it prepared me for the fast-paced nature of college classes.”
After graduating from Brookfield Central in 2023, Maija continued her education at Florida Gulf Coast University, where she is majoring in Supply Chain Management. Thanks to the 27 college credits she earned while at Elmbrook, she is on track to graduate a semester early, completing her degree in seven semesters instead of eight.
Beyond academics, Maija was actively involved in extracurricular activities, serving as a key member of Brookfield Central’s Blue Crew and competing on both the varsity golf and varsity soccer teams. She credits her literature teacher, Ms. Silver, and soccer coach, Coach Makal, for their influence in shaping her high school experience.
At Florida Gulf Coast University, Maija has continued to stay engaged on campus. She is actively searching for internships in both Wisconsin and Florida, as her program requires one for graduation. In addition, she serves on the leadership team for Reformed University Fellowship, a campus ministry, and as the volunteer director for the university’s Homecoming Council.
Maija’s interest in supply chain management was sparked by working for her father’s company in communications technology while in high school and during the summers. Through this experience, she gained insight into the importance of supply chains in every aspect of business.
“Supply chain is something that can’t be outsourced. It’s always going to exist, and it’s crucial to every industry,” Maija explained. “It’s a future-proof career that is stable, interesting, and truly makes the world go round.”
As she looks ahead, Maija remains focused on gaining industry experience and excelling in her studies. She hopes to one day become an airport operations manager for a major airport, combining her passion for logistics and management.
“I’m really grateful for the opportunities I had at Elmbrook,” Maija said. “Getting ahead in college credits and having teachers and coaches who supported me really helped set me up for success.”
