On March 12 at Pilgrim Park, Elmbrook held its first-ever game for the Middle School Unified Sports program, which was cheered on by a packed gym! Wisconsin Hills Middle School and Pilgrim Park Middle School battled neck-and-neck in a heated basketball game that ended in a lightning round with a 21-21 tie.
Unified Sports is an inclusive sports program in which students, both with and without disabilities, are brought together to work as a team, form new relationships and compete in a friendly environment. The program was started in Elmbrook’s high schools in 2021 by Brookfield East’s Hannah Christianson.
In 1989, the Special Olympics adopted Unified Sports to expand sports opportunities for athletes seeking new challenges while achieving social inclusion. Congratulations to all the student-athletes, advisors, and Unified Sports participants and advocates who made this possible!
