On Tuesday, October 20, father-son author duo Matt and Steve Murrie spoke with over 725 students, staff, and community members on their new book, The Screaming Hairy Armadillo and 76 Other Animals with Weird, Wild Names. Their book looks at unique animals from around the world.  The Murrie's discussed animals with bizarre names like the Headless Chicken Monster and Pink Fairy Armadillo, and how every creature and person is important and invaluable. Their interactive presentation prompted animal drawings and concluded with answering questions from students.

The next day, Newbery Medal and Edgar Award winner Amy Timberlake spoke to over 600 students about her new book, Skunk and Badger. Her book follows an odd-couple tale with incredible illustrations from Jon Klassen and a style akin to a modern Winnie the Pooh. Her presentation included a reading from her book, an explanation of her writing process and contact with the book's illustrator. Timberlake also answered student questions, and confirmed that she is not related to Justin Timberlake.

These author visits were made possible through Elmbrook's community partnership with Boswell Books.
