David Richter is a 1987 Brookfield East graduate whose dedication to the Elmbrook community has earned him the nickname "the Mayor of Brookfield" among his colleagues and friends.

David's time in Elmbrook began at Fairview South Elementary before proceeding to Burleigh Junior High, and ultimately Brookfield East. He managed the varsity basketball team from sixth grade on and while at East, actively participated in Spartan baseball and Key Club. Richter expressed extreme gratitude for his teachers and coaches, namely his second grade teacher, Mrs. Howard, English Literature teacher and coach, Mr. Kroening, and Coach Luebstorf, his basketball coach.

"The opportunities that I received in my Elmbrook education really prepared me well for my advancement into college," said Richter. "Even more so, the district gave me lifelong friends in my peers and instructors alike."

After his graduation from BEHS, Richter continued on to the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater where he completed his undergraduate in Marketing in 1991. During his time in higher education, he coached baseball for Brookfield Central High School. Following his college education, Richter worked in sales in the Milwaukee area and has been a member of the Merck Pharmaceuticals team for 17 years.

Through the years Richter coached countless Elmbrook students, to include current Brookfield East Principal and Spartan alum Andy Farley. "I love the sports and the people, and most importantly I think it's important to stay connected and give back to the community," said Richter. He has been the President of the Brookfield Central Booster Club since 2015 and attends all school sporting events, often running the scoreboards and playing the role of announcer at the games. David continues to run the highly-successful Drive for Your School by Soeren's Ford of Brookfield fundraiser, which raises several thousand dollars each year for Brookfield Central, and among other projects has been working with the district's new LAUNCH program to promote business collaboration with local education.

Today, David is happily married to Mary Richter, a first grade teacher at Swanson Elementary, and together they have three children, Elizabeth who attends Wisconsin Hills Middle School, and John and Matthew, who both attend Brookfield Central.
