Nic and David Sheff answer audience questionsFather-son author duo David and Nic Sheff shared their personal story about addiction, recovery and sobriety, and best practices to help those in need, with nearly 500 people at the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts on Friday evening, January 11. The Sheff family's personal journey with addiction is the subject of Oscar-hopeful film Beautiful Boy, which was inspired by David's memoir of the same name.

Ashleigh Nowakowski, Executive Director of Your Choice to Live, moderated the conversation with the Sheff's and asked the pair insightful questions about addiction and advice for those currently helping loved ones to recovery. Following their presentation, David and Nic answered questions from the audience. Their visit was in promotion of their latest release, the educational guidebook High: Everything You Need to Know About Drugs, Alcohol, and Addiction.

"This is a topic of growing importance and I am so glad we were able to bring the Sheff's to our community to raise awareness and build knowledge around the issues of addiction and substance abuse disorder," said Superintendent Mark Hansen.

The event was co-hosted by Elmbrook Schools, Boswell Books, Your Choice to Live, REDgen, and the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts.
