Left: Laurie Keller, Right: Sean Connolly with studentBest-selling children's authors Laurie Keller and Sean Connolly visited Burleigh and Swanson Elementary this week to speak with students.

On Monday, November 5, author and illustrator Laurie Keller spoke to over 700 preschool through second-grade students from Burleigh and Brookfield Elementary about her latest book Potato Pants. During the presentation, Keller read her book and had an interactive drawing session with students. Following the presentation, she talked with students and signed her books. Laurie is the author and illustrator of numerous children's books including The Scrambled States of America, Arnie the Doughnut, and Do Unto Otters.

On Friday, November 9, author Sean Connolly visited Swanson Elementary to promote his new book, The Book of Ingeniously Daring Chemistry: 24 Experiments for Young Scientists. His latest book is the newest in a series of successful hands-on STEM books for kids. Connolly spoke to over 100 fifth grade students and demonstrated several chemistry experiments featured in his book. After the presentation, Connolly answered questions and met with students to sign copies of his books.

These author visits were sponsored by Elmbrook's community partner, Boswell Books. This school year, numerous award-winning authors are scheduled to visit the district as a continuation of our joint initiative to engage students in reading and writing.
