L to R: Sean Connolly, Matt TavaresBest-selling children's authors Sean Connolly and Matt Tavares visited Dixon, Tonawanda, and Brookfield Elementary Schools this week for interactive presentations with students.

On Thursday, September 26, author Sean Connolly returned to Elmbrook to visit Dixon Elementary to promote his new book, The Book of Terrifyingly Awesome Technology: 27 Experiments for Young Scientists. His latest book is the newest in a series of successful hands-on STEM books for kids. Connolly spoke to over 250 students in grades 3-5 and demonstrated several science experiments featured in his books with the help of student and staff volunteers. Connolly also signed copies of his books for students.

On Friday, September 27, author and illustrator Matt Tavares visited Tonawanda and Brookfield Elementary to speak to over 350 students about his new book, Dasher, which follows the story of one of Santa's reindeer. Tavares drew animals, shared drawing advice with students, discussed his writing process, and signed copies of his books following the presentation.

These author visits were sponsored by Elmbrook's community partner, Boswell Books. This school year, numerous award-winning authors are scheduled to visit the district as a continuation of our joint initiative to engage students in reading and writing.
