Maggie with the book display

Brookfield Central sophomore, Maggie Conlon received the Girl Scout Gold Award at a Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast recognition event on May 21. Conlon earned the award through her work to create more attractive bookcases for the Brookfield Public Library children's section. Conlon also partnered with Central's Key Club for a read-aloud program that helps toddlers develop a love for reading.

"During this project I learned a lot of logistical, leadership, and communication skills," said Maggie. "When children come to the library, the space and new book displays will be inviting and something they gravitate toward."

The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest recognition within the organization, with only 5.4% of eligible Girl Scout members earning the honor. Conlon's displays and read-aloud sessions will be maintained by the Brookfield Central Key Club for years to come.
