Brookfield Central Junior Michael Long took home the gold in the 100 Yard Backstroke at the Division 1 WIAA State Championships in early February held in Waukesha. Long finished with a time of 49.09, edging ahead of Muskego's time of 50.05. He also finished third in the 200 Yard Freestyle at the competition.

"Michael overcame numerous challenges, including illness and a compressed season, to achieve his goal of going under 50 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke," said Head Coach Van Donkersgoed. "His tenacity and resilience throughout the season underscore how impressive his state championship title is. We are very proud of Michael and look forward to his Senior year." 

Additional athletes contributing to the 5th Place Team finish:

  • Brady Miller (BCHS Junior): 2nd Place in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, 24th Place in the 100 Yard Butterfly
  • 200 Yard Medley Relay Team (Stuart Seymour, Brady Miller, Michael Long, Thomas Bergin): 4th Place
  • 400 Yard Freestyle Relay Team (Jonathan Day, Stuart Seymour, Thomas Bergin, Michael Long): 6th Place
  • Stuart Seymour (BCHS Sophomore): 7th Place in the 100 Yard Backstroke, 14th Place in the 200 Yard Individual Medley
  • Michael Penney (BEHS Junior): 8th Place in the 1 Meter Dive
  • Thomas Bergin (BCHS Freshman): 18th Place in the 100 Yard Freestyle
  • Nathan Klitzke (BEHS Sophomore): 23rd in the 100 Yard Breaststroke
