Presidential Scholar Semifinalists

The School District of Elmbrook is proud to announce that three members of the Class of 2018 have been named to a group of 15 Wisconsin semifinalists in the 2018 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program.

Congratulations to the following students (above left to right):

  • Jennifer Cape, Brookfield Central High School
  • Julian Rhee, Brookfield East High School
  • Sophia Sun, Brookfield Central High School

Superintendent Mark Hansen stated, "Each year the Presidential Scholars Program seeks to identify the best students from across the country. The School District of Elmbrook celebrates this year's semifinalists and their incredible achievements, and we wish Jennifer, Julian, and Sophia continued success as they proceed to the final round."

Inclusion in the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, now in its 54th year, is one of the highest honors bestowed upon graduating high school seniors. Students from each state were selected for their exceptional performance on either the ACT or SAT college admission exams. Further consideration is based on superior academic and artistic achievements, career and technical education accomplishments, leadership qualities, strong character, and involvement in community and school activities. Application to the program is by invitation only; students do not apply individually, nor do their schools nominate them.

Cape, Rhee, and Sun are among 630 Presidential Scholar semifinalists selected from an initial 5,300 eligible candidates. The Commission on Presidential Scholars names a final total of 161 academic Presidential Scholars, which includes a male and female from each state and additional scholars from U.S. districts and territories. The Commission also chooses up to 20 Presidential Scholars in the Arts and 20 Presidential Scholars in Career and Technical Education.

Congratulations to Jennifer, Julian, and Sophia for being named semifinalists, and best of luck as they enter the final round that determines Presidential Scholars!
