The Math Olympiads competition challenges young mathematicians to think differently while solving problems. There is often a unique approach to solving the questions that are asked on this exam that most students struggle with. Over a 5 month time period, students in the Math Club are given this test to build on their skills. Each test consists of 5 problems with a 30 minute allotted time slot to complete the exam. With each consecutive test, the rigor becomes much more difficult.

A perfect score would be 25 if you got all problems correct throughout the year. We have had some exceptional scores this year that I would like to highlight.

In 3rd place, with a score of 16, Michael Deselnicu overcame the difficulty by having his best test ever towards the end.

In 2nd place, we had a tie with scores of 17 points. The tie belongs to Alan Zhong, and Emily Zheng. If it were not for a strong effort by Alan for his last test, scoring a perfect 5, the results would have been different. He buckled down and pushed through for a fantastic finish. It is not very often that people score a perfect score on any one test. In fact, out of 145 attempts this year, it only happened 3 times. Emily scored a perfect 5 on the second test of the year. A big celebration for them both.

In 1st place, with a score of 18 points, Ms. Carrie Wang squeaked her way to victory. Carrie started out strong with 13/15 points in the first 3 tests. I thought for sure she would be Pilgrim Parks first person to break 20 points since 2015. She came up just shy, but still manages place 1st in the school competition. Great job.

The top 10 worked it's way as so:

Carrie Wang

Emily Zheng / Alan Zhong

Michael Deselnicu

Reilly Tom

Thevindu Perera

Nathanael Ren

Sameer Bhatt / David Jia / Stephen Leahy / David Wang

Anant Jhaveri

Suraksha Kodgi

Congratulations to all who have taken on the challenge of the Math Olympiads.
