Hannah Yoo, a 5th grade student at Burleigh Elementary won the CESA #1 Regional Spelling Bee this week! Yoo competed for the title against seven elementary-age students and 21 middle-schoolers from seven area school districts and three private schools. She had previously participated in the Regional Bee two years ago.

The competition ended with a series of heated spell-offs between Yoo and Swanson Elementary 5th Grader Saathvik Gowda. Gowda finished in second place, and Wisconsin Hills Middle School 7th Grader, Naureen Kamal took third place at the competition.

Yoo will continue on to the Badger State Spelling Bee in Madison this March, and Gowda will be her Alternate at the competition. They will compete against the champions of four other regional spelling bees across the state for a chance to represent Wisconsin at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C.

Congratulations to all three students on their incredible successes, and good luck at state!
