According to quiltmaker Mary Felkner:
"For the past several years I have been making quilts and lap robes for the VA. I use t-shirt fronts and either flannel or fleece for the borders and backing. I am continually on the lookout for used t-shirts and communicate that on the neighborhood web site. One of the Swanson mothers responded and brought t-shirts to my house several months ago. Her daughter is a 2nd grader at Swanson and came with her mother. She questioned her mother on why I needed the shirts and what I would do with them. She then talked with Mrs. Morales and asked if her class could bring in t-shirts to help me. Initially, as I understand it, it was suggested that each child bring in two shirts. The project grew, and I ended up with 98 t-shirts from the class. So I now will be able to use the shirts to make more than 10 quilts for the VA thanks to the 2nd graders at Swanson School."
