Swanson Student Awarded Volunteer Service Award

Swanson fifth grader, Gargi Kelkar, received the Presidents Volunteer Service Award for doing 25+ hours of volunteering.

She volunteered for Ekal Vidyalaya , a non-profit organization on a mission to bring basic education to every child across rural India: https://www.ekal.org.  To help in this mission, Ekal 's Milwaukee Chapter organizes fundraiser and community service activities in Milwaukee area for which Gargi actively volunteered.

Three examples of her hard work are:

  1. Community Outreach - Making Birthday Greeting Cards for over 150 Sponsors of Ekal residing in and around Milwaukee Area
  2. Food Drive - Preparing bags with flyers,  distributing those flyer bags in the neighborhood and collecting bags full of supplies to be donated for Hebron house of hospitality (a shelter for the homeless)
  3. Adopt a highway - cleaning the stretch of Capitol Dr Highway with team of volunteers

This year she wants to continue volunteering and has a target of volunteering 50 hrs!  Great job, Gargi!
