Young Professional Scholars

The Young Professionals Scholars (YPS) provides various career-based learning experiences to Brookfield Central and Brookfield East High School students. Being sensitive to each student’s passions, interests, skills, strengths, and aspirations/goals, and given the targeted focus on academic and career planning, YPS program options include opportunities for career exploration, preparation and training, for leadership and employability skill development, and/or to learn and apply technical knowledge and skills in high demand, high skill fields through authentic hands-on learning by collaborating with and being guided by professional experts in career areas.

Students' experiences must include rigorous, sustained interaction, paid or unpaid, with an industry or community professional. The setting may be real or simulated, include first-hand engagement, align with coursework (students earn between .5 and 1.5 credits), and include a training agreement. Courses that qualify for this designation include:

  • Mentorship (unpaid or paid)
  • LAUNCH (unpaid)
  • Business Leadership (School-based enterprise, unpaid)
  • Career-Employment Opportunity (paid)
  • Youth Apprenticeship (paid)

Each YPS experience will be designated on the student’s transcript. YPS will be included on the school profile (this document is shared with institutions of higher education during the college admissions/application process).
