On Friday, October 20, Geisel Award-winning author and illustrator duo David LaRochelle and Mike Wohnoutka visited Tonawanda Elementary in promotion of their new book See the Ghost: Three Stories About Things You Cannot See (released 7/25/23). They spoke to over 300 highly engaged Kindergarten through third-grade students about their writing process, acted out their new book with the teachers and students, and ended with an interactive drawing session.
“We are so grateful to have hosted Mr. LaRochelle and Mr. Wohnoutka,” stated Library Lead Susan Goddard. “They inspired our Tonawanda Tigers with their love of writing, drawing, and making books!”
Following their presentation, they answered students’ questions, signed books, and even read portions of his books aloud to students. This event was sponsored by Elmbrook's community partner, Boswell Books. This school year, numerous award-winning authors are scheduled to visit the district as a continuation of our joint initiative to engage students in reading and writing.
