Dear K-5 Tonawanda Families & Scientists,

Instead of our traditional in-person Science Fair, this year we will be providing an opportunity to participate in our OPTIONAL VIRTUAL Science Fair. Participation is optional, and is open to any K-5 student. Video submissions of Science Fair entries will be posted for all families to view virtually on FRIDAY, APRIL 23rd.

Kindergarten through 2nd grade students can showcase a poster, display or example of a simple experiment, invention, or collection.  K-2 students are not required to use the scientific method.

3rd through 5th grade students will be expected to follow the steps in the scientific method:

      Ask a question.

  1. Gather information and observe (research)

  2. Make a hypothesis (guess the answer)

  3. Experiment and test your hypothesis.

  4. Analyze your test results.

  5. Present a conclusion.

All students (K-5) are required to prepare a video, no longer than 3 minutes in length to post to our Science Fair FlipGrid which will be sent to families who are interested in participating. Videos should contain the essential information pertaining to their projects. 3rd-5th grade students will not be conducting their experiments in the video, but talking about their project and explaining their findings. Here is an optional experiment planner to get you started.
