The start to the 2017-18 school year was marked by the compassion of both students and staff of WHMS.
Harvey, category 4 storm, arrived on the shores of Texas as a hurricane Friday night, 8/25/17, packing sustained wind speeds as high as 130 mph. As of now, floodwaters are receding, revealing the staggering breadth of destruction from Harvey. Close to 40,000 homes are heavily damaged, and 7,000 were destroyed, in the latest figures from the Texas Department of Public Safety
WHMS students came together to help those in need in Texas. They created a Sister School partnership with Blocker Middle School in Texas City. (just outside of Galveston)
Led by National Junior Honor Society, WHMS raised over $1100.00 with a multifaceted campaign.
- Raised just over $660 through our "Wildcat Strong" wristband sale and Ice Cream Bar.
- Collected school supplies.
- Received $450 in donations.
As of Saturday, 41 boxes were shipped out to Blocker Middle School. Supplies were well received!
Many thanks to all those who helped show support through the donation of their time, talent and effort!
